Frank J. Peters of Staten Island is the new commander of the New York State American Legion.
His election capped the 96th Annual Convention of the American Legion’s Department of New York, held July 17-19 in Albany.
Peters, who succeeds Kenneth Governor of North Greenbush, will serve as department commander for one year with a focus on “honoring all who served.”
A Navy veteran and retired ferry boat captain, Peters is a 25-year member of Gold Star Post 1365. He has held numerous positions on every level of The American Legion, including serving as post commander, Richmond County commander and 2nd District commander.
A native of Staten Island, Peters lives in the community of Travis with his wife, Mary. They have two daughters, Mary Margaret, who is currently serving in the U.S. Navy, and Emily Frances.
