UTICA — West Seneca and Smith Post advanced to the semi-finals in the New York State American Legion Baseball Tournament Saturday after winning late afternoon and night games, respectively. They play each other Sunday, Aug. 4, and the winner then plays Clinton County for the title.
Bill Sulkowski scattered 10 hits and hit a solo home run to lead the West Seneca to a 9-3 victory over Middletown in a late afternoon game at Murnane Field's Donovan Stadium. Then, in a nail-biter last-at-bat night game, Drew DeBlasiis singled home the tying run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and Jeff Cooke walked with the bases loaded to give Smith Post a 2-1 victory over Clinton County, the Observer-Dispatch reported.
